Yes, I went to see 50 Shades of Grey. No, I have not read the books ( I read 25 pages of the first book thought the writing was horrible and put it down) and some of you are going to stop reading this blog post about now... :) Anyway, the plan is to actually read the book prior to the next movie. Let's get to the good part shall we?
The 50 Shades of Grey movie has been talked about for about a year. I will admit I really wasn't that excited about it. I mean come on? I read a trashy romance every now and then, in a book is one thing in a movie is another. I had no hope of it being good. So, when asked by a friend I caved and went. I was very surprised. The movie was good, really good!
For those of you who live under a rock and have no clue what this movie is about I will give you the succinct summary from IMDB.com "Literature student Anastasia Steele's life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey."
Now that that is out of the way tormented Christian Grey is played by Jamie Dornan (who I think should have been played by Ian Somerhalder) and Anastasia Steele played by Dakota Johnson. Don't miss the play on names here...Grey and Steele! Really E.L. James?
Anastasia's character, or Ana, here was thoughtfully played. She looks the part of an exhausted college student when she goes to interview Christian for the first time. Dakota brings smarts and humor to Ana's character. I thought I would laugh at the cheesy writing, from the book which made me put it down, but laughed at Ana's sassy comebacks and humanity. Christian's character was ok wasn't as impressed with him other than the ability to say some of the lines without bursting into laughter! He had a great body but would have preferred someone taller maybe a bit more sinister? And here lies the beauty, this Christian is unassuming he looks like a nice guy, a little intense but a nice guy so, he catches you off guard. I think we all know some guys that are just a bit too dramatic...that is how I saw Christian's character played.
All in all, I thought it was worth the money definitely worth buying on DVD for you and bae to watch. The director did a fantastic job of cutting out stupid parts of the book and making a great story line. Unfortunately, according to Daily Mail Fifty Shades Director Sam-Taylor Johnson will not be back due to toxic relationship with E.L. James. I think this will mess with the flow of the movies, but we will see.
Let me know what your thoughts are on this movie if you saw it. Do you think the sequels will be better now that Sam-Taylor Johnson will no longer be at the helm? Or not?
For this movie I chose...SURPRISE! Grey! Grey mohair hat, gunmetal jewelry, grey sheer shirt, grey faux fur vest, wet look black leggings and grey over the knee flat boots!
Til next time!!!
